The Real People By James Thigpen Jr. | 24"x36" Canvas Print

In 2019 James Thigpen Jr. created a piece entitled The Real People. Inspired by Varnette P. Honeywood's Sabath, Thigpen would illustrate the similarities and differences within Black culture, noting that regardless of those differences we stand in solidarity.

This piece was later reimagined as a mural on the side of the grocery store Thigpen frequented as a child. Beside the painting it reads, "I'm not above you. I'm not under you. I'm by your side." further driving the point that we are one, and should always be unified.
